Camp Manitou Bay of Islands Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation operated by a volunteer board of directors. An experienced volunteer Camp Director is responsible for each week of summer programming. The Board has three standing committees that oversee operation of Program, Kitchen and Facilities. There are different volunteer opportunities for both administrative and hands-on in-camp activities as described below.
If you are interested in Volunteering at Camp Manitou as a Counselor, Cook, Cooks Assistant, or Assistant Manager, please complete the appropriate Application/Medical On Line Form below. This form will be sent to the “Volunteer Coordinator”, Rudi Smith who will forward it to all camps you have indicated you would like to volunteer at.
Volunteering at Manitou is a rewarding experience because of the beautiful location, the friendships developed with other volunteers and most of all, seeing the smiles on the faces of the campers as they experience the majestic lakeside camp in the pines.

All volunteers 18 years of age or older must complete a Criminal Background check through “My Backcheck”. If accepted as a volunteer, your Director will help you through this process.
If 18 years of age, you are a returning volunteer, and have completed a Criminal Background Check through “My Backcheck” within the last 3 years, you must complete and submit the “Criminal Background Declaration Form” below. If accepted as a volunteer, your Director will help you through this process.

Camp Manitou provides an excellent opportunity for High School Students to achieve their 40 hours of community involvement activity. Your supervisor will be happy to fill out the necessary forms which can be obtained from your school. There are different volunteer opportunities for hands-on in-camp activities as described below.

CABIN COUNSELLORS are responsible for camper fun and well-being day and night for the week of camp. If you enjoy working with kids, this could be for you.
PROGRAM STAFF work with the Camp Director and Counsellors to plan and supervise the week at camp. If you are 18+ and have a special skill or activity, or if you enjoy helping out with kids actitivies in the outdoors, this could be for you.

HEALTH CARE PROVIDER has at minimum Canadian Red Cross Society Standard First Aid Certificate or St. John Ambulance Association Standard First Aid Certificate or equivalent and is 18 or older. Able to exercise judgment regarding the camper's/staff's need for first aid and/or follow up care beyond the limitations for the camp facilities. Available on site for the whole camp week.

SENIOR LIFEGUARD supervises the waterfront including safety standards and FUN. Also has a duty of care, mentorship and direct supervision of all other waterfront staff at all hours and the care and upkeep of program equipment. If you are 18+ hold a current (NLS) certificate and have two years of supervision experience.
JUNIOR LIFEGUARDS are 16 years of age with NLS certificate.

Cooks and kitchen volunteers are the core of the Manitou volunteer group. Manitou is known for its delicious home cooked non-institutional food, and the cooks inspire us all. They are hard working but have their fun and beach time also.
COOKS have a positive attitude and strong people skills, the ability to organize kitchen volunteers, high standard of cleanliness and the can prepare balanced meals, for up to 90 people. Qualifications include ability to maintain standards in the kitchen according to the provincial regulations and the health inspector’s recommendations as well as completion of a Health Unit Safe Food Handler Certification Course or equivalent. COOK’S ASSISTANTS will follow instruction, work under the supervision of the Cook and help with planning and preparation of meals. Completion of a Health Unit Safe Food Handler Certification Course or equivalent. If this position interest you contact the Director of the camp you would like to volunteer at.

FACILITY volunteers help with maintenance, building projects and transporting campers, luggage and food. If you like working hard, driving tractors and boats and are handy, this may interest you.
CAMP MANAGERS are volunteers who have a sound knowledge of propane, water pumps and tractor operation, an ability to do repairs to equipment, plumbing and buildings, have training in the use of camp fire equipment and possess a very positive attitude and strong people skills. Will hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator card, a valid G class driver’s license, a valid Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems certificate.
CAMP MANAGER ASSISTANTS assist the Camp Manager in the safe and efficient operation of camp facilities. They will hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator card, they will have training in the use of camp fire equipment and possess a very positive attitude and strong people skills.

WORK CAMP volunteers are needed particularly at the beginning and end of the camping season.
